The beginning of a new chapter…

When I was a child, I always wanted to write a book. Actually, I started a few times (and it’s quite a lot of fun to read these drafts now, because they are amazingly bad!) but never finished one. One reason for that is that I always had troubles with the start of new chapters. The question of what should happen next was just too hard.
On Thursday, I started a new chapter of my life by moving to Gothenburg - and this time it was quite easy, since I knew what was going to happen. There were, and still are, many things that are so much fun that I haven’t had time to think too much. My flat (perfect location, beautiful furnishings), Skatås sjöar (a swim and run competition IFK Göteborg is arranging on a regular basis) and the training weekend with IFK (where I am right now) are just some things to start with. Tomorrow, the next nice happening is about to start already: Together with the Swiss National Team I’ll be preparing myself for the World Cup taking place in Sarpsborg (Norway) next weekend, where I am running the long distance on Friday and the relay on Sunday (click here to follow it live) and after that, we will be training for another week in relevant terrain for the World Championships 2019. In two weeks’ time, I’ll be back in Gothenburg and I’ll finally get to see what studying in Sweden is like. I’m really happy to experience such a great beginning of my adventure in the north and I’m sure that I’ll enjoy the rest of it as well!

… and the ending of the last one

Last weekend showed me once again how beautiful Switzerland is (maybe someone or something inside me was scared that I wouldn’t move back otherwise ;) ): I was running a national competition and the Swiss Championship in Long distance orienteering in Scuol, one of my favourite places in Switzerland. When I came to the start on Saturday, I really couldn’t stop smiling, as the landscape was just amazing! Maybe this was the key for me to run a nearly perfect race… Unfortunately, I wasn’t as lucky on Sunday. On the longest leg, I didn’t execute my (not so great) plan properly and towards the end of the race my feet were covered with blisters which hurt at every step. Although I wasn’t really satisfied with my performance on Sunday, I enjoyed the weekend with my orienteering club, my friends, my family, the beautiful (and challenging!) courses and the amazing nature very much.
Back home I spent the last days despairing while packing, running around organizing stuff and saying goodbye to my family and friends. It was a great time! :)

Autumn in Göteborg

As everyone knows, time flies by. It’s already almost a month since I travelled back to Switzerland for the selection races for the World Cup final. A 5000m and a sprint in Lenzburg should decide who is going to run the final round in Prague. With those selection races, I run my last important race in 2018 and with them finish my season – what I didn’t know back then. After many hours in the deep Norwegian terrain, my legs had some trouble to switch to the hard, tartan underground and that could be seen quite well in my time over the 5k. As if this wouldn’t have been enough, I jumped over the second control at the sprint. Luckily, I realised it but with a loss of around one and a half minutes, my chances for a place in the Swiss delegation for the World Cup were gone. Happily, there was a quite good alternative program: The same weekend as the World Cup, 25manna   in Stockholm (the biggest club relay, with 25 people in one team) took place and I would have gotten t

Being a visitor at home

Some weeks ago, the pain in my knee was gone and I finally got the chance to take advantage of all the great training possibilities in Gothenburg: Orienteering training, intervals, night corridors, strength and alternative training at fysiken,   long jogs and much more! Finally, I can train as I would like to and with every hard session my motivation gets bigger and bigger for the winter training and the next season. For a weekend filled with looking back on 2018 and planning the new season 2019, I travelled back to Switzerland at the end of last week. After an interruption of a few years in which the planning weekend took place in Ticino, we were back in Magglingen. Unfortunately, the weather was so bad that it wouldn’t have made any difference if we had stayed in a less beautiful place, the only thing we were able to see was fog and clouds.  Still, it was nice to spend some days in Switzerland. Even if it felt like coming home, in those few days I also felt like a tourist

The perfect Christmas holidays…

…some “thank you’s” (yes, it’s getting a bit kitschy) and the art of enjoying things till the last moment.   Something – in my opinion – I’ve always been good at is to appreciate the small things in life. This Christmas holiday I was very pleased that there were so many small but also big occasions that I could enjoy!  My holiday started at the central station in Gothenburg, waiting for an hour in the cold. The rumours about the delays of Swedish trains doesn’t come from just anywhere (still l have to say that they work hard for customer satisfaction, I got more than ¾ of the originally paid ticket price back because of (only) an hour delay!). I was on my way to Lövstabruk, a small village north of Stockholm to celebrate Christmas with my host family. But why get stressed about something you can’t change? After a long, long run my urge to move was already satisfied and I actually appreciated staying on the platform, listening to music and analysing the trying-not-to-freeze-
